Back in 1994 Toyota released a sports utility vehicle (SUV) as both a 3 door and 5 door, later there was even a 3 door soft-top version, in competition against the Suzuki Vitara released in 1989.
The latest generation is such a transition it's hardly recognisable from the original version back in 1994.
It's currently only available as a 5 door.
