Relonch - Turn Your iPhone Into A DSLR Beater With The Relonch Case

Relonch - Turn Your iPhone Into A DSLR Beater With The Relonch Case

The Apple iPhone 6 may only have just been revealed, but already there's some brilliantly cool accessories, like the Relonch camera case. Not only does the Relonch case add a huge f/2 lens, but it even pairs your iPhone up to an APS-C sensor, letting you take snaps to rival stand-alone cameras.

The Relonch case could be the perfect gadget if you want iOS functionality but like the look of more serious camera phones like the epic Panasonic Lumix CM1. The  case will be available for both Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 phones, hooking up via the Lightning port and, unlike the majority of cases out there, it does a whole lot more than simply protecting your iPhone.

Then again, with a price tag of around £308, so it should do, but the svelte-looking gadget does look like an impressive bit of kit for photography lovers. It introduces a large shutter button on the top of the device, for a start, giving ergonomics that are a lot closer to a proper camera than smartphone, but it's the lens/sensor combo that should really stand out.

With the Relonch case scheduled for 2015, tech specs are still being finalised, but Relonch promises a "big APS-C size sensor, a normal lens with large aperture and a unique image processing algorithm". It may all be a bit vague, but the result, according to Relonch at least, is "magazine-class photos on your smartphone".

On the downside, even though delivery isn't expected until the end of next year, you'll have to pay as soon as you order if you're interested in the Relonch case. Handing over your cash so soon seems like a lot to ask, and if it's a step too far you could always go for alternative add-on smartphone lenses like the Sony QX1, which packs in an F1.8 Carl Zeiss lens and 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor. It may be a lot uglier, but at least it's likely to hit the shops before the end of 2015!
