This is a must for anyone who has watched the TV series. I was lucky enough to visit on 7th April 2014. At £16.50 I felt the ticket price was good value. There's no photography allowed inside the studio itself but you can take photos on the set outside.
I was part of a group taken around inside the television studio by Julie-Anne. On entering Granada Studios we were first show the Green Room where the actors would wait for their call for filming. It was unbelievable seeing the wooden pigeon holes, labeled with the actors names, from which they would collect their scripts.
We then had a walk through the corridors to see inside some of the dressing rooms. A lot smaller and less glamorous than I had imagined. Then off to see hair and make-up. There were also some of the actors clothing hanging up ready to wear.
They have some of the studio sets still assembled so I was able to see inside Gail's house. Gail's staircase goes nowhere! The actors who go upstairs in a scene on TV have to stay there until filming the scene has finished. There was Carla's apartment, the factory and of course the 'Rovers Return'. We got to go in the Rovers where I had a photograph taken behind the bar. The photo was available to collect after at £7.50 or 2 for £10.
There were a few props to view - Hailey's Coffin, Fred Elliot's Coffin, Deidre's famous spectacles from the 1970's, Roy's train set and other things too.
On the way out we went through the editing suite where all those episodes of Coronation Street have been put together for years. It was all very 1970's. I can see why they've built a new studio and moved to Salford Quays.
On leaving the building we walked out through a set of double doors. These are the entrance / exit to Nick's Bistro in the TV series. Then the tour group dispersed and I was allowed to spend as much time as I liked wandering around the outside set. There are tour guides outside should you wish to ask any questions. It was fantastic!
A great day out that I would recommend.
(So good I returned on 14th October 2014)
